The Port Ellen lighthouse is about an hours walk from town.
Follow the road to the Kilnaughton cemetery and then the track to the lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1832 in memory of Lady Eleanor Campbell. Have a mini adventure and take the concrete path over the rocks to read the plaque.
From there follow the sign posted footpath over the headland to the lovely, wild singing sands beach. The grain size and silica content result in singing but humidity is also critical. The sands did not sing for us.
